Metalworking
The metal shop at HSBNE is a dedicated space that provides members with access to a wide range of tools and equipment for working with metal. From welding to cutting, shaping to finishing, members can undertake a variety of fabrication projects while benefiting from a collaborative community environment.
The tools
These are some of the tools available at the HSBNE metal shop to help members with their metalworking projects.

CNC Mill
Computer-controlled machine for precision machining of complex parts. Ideal for creating accurate metal components efficiently.

Metal Lathe
Used for shaping metal by rotating the workpiece against a cutting tool, allowing for the creation of round parts and threads.

TIG Welder
Provides high-quality welds using a tungsten electrode and inert gas. Ideal for detailed and delicate welding tasks with great control.

Plasma Cutter
Uses superheated plasma to cut through conductive metals like steel and aluminium with speed and precision.

Horizontal Bandsaw
Ideal for cutting metal stock with precision. Operates in a horizontal plane for straight, clean cuts.

Cold Cut Saw
Provides fast and clean cuts in metal without generating excessive heat. Useful for maintaining material properties.

Vertical Bandsaw
Allows for intricate cuts and curves in metal. Great for shaping and contouring workpieces.

Linisher
Belt grinder used to smooth and shape metal surfaces. Essential for finishing work and removing sharp edges.

Hydraulic Press
Uses hydraulic force to bend, shape, or compress metal. Great for stamping or pressing applications.

Sand Blaster
Propels abrasive material at surfaces using compressed air to clean or prepare metal for painting or finishing.
